| 2008-2009 Sled Dog Trips |
|
Now available, the new season is posted on the website at: Trips and Schedules

There is nothing like running dogs through the fresh snow fall.
|
We continue our tradition of offering participants the best hands-on trips available. With meticulously trained and cared for dogs your trip cannot help but be fantastic.
This year we have additional dates for our Winter Odyssey trips.
Introduced as
a trip offered just once each year, the Winter Odyssey has quickly become our most popular trip. |
We now consider it our signature trip---as nowhere else can you find a trip like it. A five-night adventure, it includes four full days of sledding in our premier style (one person per sled) with two nights at our wilderness yurt. The truly unique aspect, and the highlight for most, is the final run---an exhilarating night run ending at the kennel.
It is so amazing to talk with groups returning from the night run---everyone is reveling in the experience. The Winter Odyssey is truly the trip to take if you want all the experiences (sans the daily pooper scooping!) of a musher running their own dogs.

| Puppy Naming Contest |
|
As is our custom in summer we have puppies. Our daughter Morgan, now three (already!), has taken charge of feeding and socializing the little guys. Now comes naming the puppies. We always name our litters after a series. For example, a three-dog litter born right after the 2000 presidential election was an election-themed series, with the puppies named Punch, Dimple, and Chad. Another example of a series is the litter of all white puppies, Black Bird, Onion, Bill, Saddie, and Honey Pie (songs off of the "White Album").

This year it's your turn to name the puppies, as we are going to have a contest. Pick a theme and the names to go with it. If we chose your theme you will receive a White Wilderness T-Shirt. In need of names is a litter of 10 puppies (six boys and four girls) from parents Shiebe and Colby. So, let your creative juices flow and send me your ideas!

| Participants Notes From the Trail |
|
Please accept my thanks for a superb experience. Yours is a crack outfitter, and I was really pleased by our choice of White Wilderness. The pace led by a dog sled team was perfect. The night run was a special treat. And, I loved having my own sled on the Winter Odyssey Premiere trip. Without exception, your dogs are beautiful creatures: well-trained, full of personality, and awesome at pulling.
Kudos on an operation that is flawless, but still maintaining that human touch which made our experience feel like a genuine adventure, and not just a tour. We appreciate how flexible our guides were and their accommodating a couple of sleepy-headed participants on California time. And, thanks to your culinary expertise, we ate like queens. What other chef can train a staff of hinterland dog mushers to whip up eggs benedict in a yurt? Even a detail like your welcome packet sent in advance, complete with a packing list, was spot-on and kept us comfortable throughout the trip.
So did your guides. Shawn was a pleasure to have as our leader: a patient sled catcher, an ace teacher of pyromania (I can now build a fire without Duraflame), and a good-humored story teller. Shawn's steady hand and easy grace kept us safe cutting trails around ice floes, hacking through felled trees, and making sure that we were still in one piece after many a fall. Liz is Goddess Sunshine: Need I say more?
I am so glad that my friends and I chose to go dog sledding with your outfitter over kayaking in Belize. Already I've recommended WW to my boss and colleagues. So, if you find a legal department at your doorstep in the coming years, you can blame me.
As you grow in success, may White Wilderness stay that family of motley personalities "human and canine" that make the difference between a nice trip and a blessed destination to look forward to year after year.
