For centuries the people of the Mongolian plateau have used yurts as cozy warm dwellings. These round, peaked-roofed, canvas-covered huts make cozy and reliable shelters. Over the past ten years hundreds of guests have found our yurts to be comfortable winter lodging. Guests love the additional time afforded to spend with our friendly dogs at the yurt…helping feed, care and give them extra attention. Explore the lake on foot or by snowshoes after sledding. Witness the dogs howl in a mesmerizing chorus at the full moon or echo the lone call of a distant wolf.

Our yurt is tucked away on a quiet lake within the Superior National Forest. This 18 foot yurt is set up to comfortably accommodate up to 8 people, sleeping available on a futon bed and padded cots with winter sleeping bags. Additional sleeping is available for larger groups in winter tents or under the stars on the lake. The yurt is kept comfortable by a propane heater, battery powered lights and a fully equipped kitchen with a cook stove, table and chairs. An outhouse is located near the yurt.

All of our camping trip trips travel self-sufficiently with what can be carried on dogsleds. We camp using 4-season winter tents, sleeping pads and winter sleeping bags with fleece liners, affording a cozy nights sleep. Hearty meals are cooked over a crackling warm fire, which also serves as the social hearth for drying gear and sharing stories at the end of the adventurous days on trail. All skills for staying warm and comfortable in the winter are taught.

This exclusive lodge is all you need for a contented trip away from it all. Whispering Pines is a private custom log built getaway, tucked in a grove of towering pines, with grand views of the night sky and secluded shoreline in the backdrop. The charm is heightened by driving your own dog team to the front door of this lodge as part of your trip. Explore an endless network of trails by dog team for three days. 3 bedrooms with private baths, radiant floor heating, modern kitchen, wood stove and sauna. Available as part of our Whispering Pines Premium Package or as a custom trip. Minimum 3 night stay.
