Whispering Pines Premium Package
Our deluxe lodge trip. Whispering Pines features a private custom log crafted getaway, tucked away in the boreal forest, with grand views of the night sky and a secluded shoreline as the backdrop. This trip features the unique opportunity to drive your own dog team from our kennel, through a fabulous trail system for three consecutive days, and return to the nearby lodge to unwind in the evening. The relaxing McDougal Lakehouse is the exclusive lodging destination for the Whispering Pines trip, (unless otherwise specified. )
From our comfortable lakehouse, explore an endless network of forested trails by dogsled. Your guide will teach you all the skills needed to drive a dog team. Each day offers up new routes, with the trails progressing as you gain skills and confidence driving your team of dogs (premier style). We'll cover between 20-30 miles each day, exploring scenic lakes, forest trails and witnessing the tracks of the locals, including snowshoe hare, fox, mink and timber wolves. Enjoy the comforts of this northwoods retreat at the end of each day – pampered by savory meals that compliment an active day on the trail. Unwind in the hottub after dinner, curl up with a book by the fireplace or take a moonlit stroll on the lake. After two full days on the trail, enjoy a leisurely third morning at the lodge followed by a hearty brunch. This day culminates with a night run. We'll depart from the kennel early afternoon and run until dusk. Stop for supper cooked over a crackling campfire, and continue mushing on into the darkness of the night. The night run is always a favorite. Running at night is as close to flying as you will get without leaving the ground. Weather permitting, watch twilight unfold, the moonshadows of the dogs emerge on the snow, and the starry winter sky come in to focus. Back at the lodge we will have dessert and enjoy the stories from the night. Depart after breakfast the next morning.
