Traditional Yurt Trip
Experience dogsledding first hand on this 3 day trip that culminates with an overnight trip to a remote yurt camp. Perfect for families, active seniors and those seeking a unique vacation, but at a relaxing pace. Meet your guide for dinner on the first evening and learn about dogsledding. Ease into your trip by spending the first two nights in a comfortable north woods lodge. The first full day is a training day for you to learn to drive a dog team and enjoy the scenic northwoods blanketed in winter. Two people will share a sled, alternating riding and driving. This is great for those who are unsure of the physical challenges, or like the camaraderie of mushing with a partner. We'll stop mid-day for a hot trail lunch and homemade cookies. Expect to gain skills and confidence manouevering the sled as we explore scenic trails on this first full day.
Dogsled to our yurt on a secluded lake the second day. It is almost certain that we will be the only people enjoying this remote lake. What is a yurt, you ask? A yurt is a round insulated tent-like shelter with a wooden frame and a canvas skin, that has its origins with the nomadic tribes in Mongolia. Our modern day version includes a propane heater, lights and cookstove which provide the warmth and comfort of a lodge and the rustic flavor of a backcountry camp site. Cots or a futon mattress are provided, along with winter sleeping bags and pillows. An outhouse rounds out the ammenities. For snowshoeing, stargazing, or just contemplating the beauty of winter wilderness, this is a delightful location. You are welcome to help with the care and feeding of the sled dogs, or stretch your legs with a stroll on the frozen lake. Enjoy savory meals and homemade desserts. After dinner, listen for the call of the lone timber wolf, answered by the chorus of our sled dog family. The next day, continue to explore spruce bogs, frozen lakes and winding forest trails as we dogsled home to the kennel. Spend the final evening at the lodge and depart after breakfast the following morning. Join one of the scheduled trips, or gather a group of 3-6 together and we can customize this trip for your group.
