Watch the thrilling start of a sled dog race, and meet mushers as you roam through the festival of dog trucks preparing for several races in the area. Spectating is typically free, and the sight of powerful teams leaving the starting chute is priceless.

The longest sled dog race in the lower 48, starts and ends in Duluth and features teams from across the US and Canada competing in the 375 mile marathon and 150 mile mid-distance races. Festivities all weekend long leading up to the crowd drawing spectacular start typically the last Sunday in January. Book your trip through Duluth to take in this fun for the whole family event pre or post your dogsled adventure.

Make it a Wolftrack weekend! Come for a dogsled day trip on Saturday, and then catch the local Ely race on Sunday. Cheer on the teams, or get involved as a volunteer. This race draws over 50 teams regionally, with great viewing at several of the road crossings on the 30 and 60 mile routes. Race day is typically the first sunday in March.

Flatiron-Gegoka cross country ski trails are located just 6 miles down the road from the kennel, in Isabella. Book an extra day or two at Lake Gegoka Condos or Superior National Forest Lodge and explore a fabulous trail system nestled in the Isabella snowbelt. Or, register for a custom lodge dogsled trip at Whispering Pines Lodge for the ultimate winter northwoods dogsled & ski getaway.

This 4 mile loop around Miners Lake is conveniently located just three blocks from the center of Ely, and great for novices or a quick ski after dog sledding. Many more ski trails near Ely.
