I have been reading recently of the growing “dark skies” initiatives. These are communities that using lighting or the lack of to make it possible to see the night sky. Most people cannot even see the Milky Way from where they live.

I have been promoting seeing the night sky for decades as one of the many reasons to come on a trip with us. Our Yurt trips are especially good for this. You can walk out onto the lake and be far far away from all artificial light. In addition a winter trip is especially good for sky watching. First it gets dark earlier so you don’t have to miss your bedtime to see the stars. Second in winter the humidity is lower and without its subtle interference the sky seems just feet away.

If you would like to know more about the dark sky initiative visit Dark Sky.

If you want to see the most amazing sky come on a Yurt Dog Sledding Trip, especially in January, and take a night stroll on the lake.
