Both novices and seasoned winter enthusiasts will appreciate the extended time with the dogs, learning to drive your own sled and a mix of camping under the stars, as well as a night at our heated backcountry yurt. An ideal trip for outdoor novices looking to ease in to winter camping. Drive your own dog team as we travel, camp and explore the pristine northwoods draped in winter. Learn which wood burns hottest, where to chop an icehole for drinking water and how to identify wolf tracks. Sleep under the stars or in a 4-season winter tent. Don’t forget to peak out and check for northern lights, which are forecast to be more plentiful this winter.

Trip Itinerary
  1. Group welcome dinner and trip orientation.
  2. Morning rendezvous at the kennel after breakfast. Load personal gear in sleds, review the day’s route and depart on the expedition. Lunch over a hot fire, and then mush onward to our backcountry yurt. Help feed the dogs and settle in to our private camp.
  3. Say good-bye to the yurt. Second day of mushing, gaining more skills with the dogs and sled driving. Expect to camp early as we teach skills for comfortable winter camping, chop wood for dinner and care for the dogs.
  4. Travel day and camping. A total of two nights camping and four full days of dogsledding as we explore a variety of terrain and northwoods scenery.
  5. Final run home to the kennel on Day 5. Dinner back at the lodge.
  6. Breakfast and depart.
Maximum group size: 6 guests with 2 guides. Minimum age 16.
