Winter Odyssey Yurt Trip
This is it! The Ultimate Dog Sled Adventure.
The Ultimate Trip
Experience the ultimate in dog mushing: the magic of dog sledding under the night sky. The Winter Odyssey features a wide variety of sled dog experiences and four full days of mushing, all in premier style — you drive your own dog team. An overview on the first evening is followed by an introductory day trip with the sled dogs, returning to the lodge at night. Spend your first day getting acquainted with the dogs and winter, knowing you will be back at your room to readjust and relax.
The following morning, pack your overnight bag in the sled, and we’ll head out on a three-day, two-night mushing trip. Explore frozen lakes and snowy forest trails as you drive your dog team to our remote yurt camp for a two-night stay. Spend the evenings in the cozy yurt or head out for a moonlit hike and look for the northern lights. Fall asleep watching the stars through the yurt skylight or listening to the dogs answer a distant wolf call.
Enjoy the Boundary Waters Wilderness Area by Dog Sled
On your third day, remote, lively, single track routes combine with awe inspiring scenery as we glide past old growth pines, glacier-carved lakes, and otter-tracked swamps. Conditions permitting, we’ll venture into the Boundary Water’s Wilderness, making fresh tracks across remote untracked lakes and through secluded boreal forests.
Lodge & Yurt Camping
What makes the Winter Odyssey so unique is the last day of sledding. We start by doing nothing. You get the morning off to relax at the yurt, read, sleep in, go snowshoeing…by this point you’ve earned it. We’ll serve a brunch worthy of the Northwoods logging camp lore. Then it is time to head out on the trail for our fourth day of mushing. We’ll pause on a secluded lake for dinner, and serve up grilled steaks (or stuffed portabellas) over a fire.
Amazing Dog Sled Night Run
As dusk gives way to the night, you’ll mush home to the kennel with that magical winter sky overhead and moon shadows dancing along the trail. As your night vision takes hold, you’ll see the world with a new lens. Some describe the night run as feeling like flying – a magical whirlwind of sensations to culminate the trip. Guests who have just completed the night run are simply in awe of the experience. Its caps the trip with a grand finale.
This trip has more diversity of dog sledding experiences than you will find anywhere else!
