Your dog team is made of Alaskan huskies, a breed known for its strength, speed, and stamina. Our dogs’ natural ability and training make traveling many miles easy. They are well socialized and less aggressive than the freighting dogs. The Alaskan husky is a unique breed you will never find on the show rink. These dogs were bred at the turn of the century during the gold rush days in Alaska.
For thousands of years humans and dogs have depended on each other to survive in the north. Dogs made it possible for Inuit to live in the Arctic, for explorers to reach the poles, and for Alaskan gold seekers to search for gold. The rich history of dogsledding comes alive every winter for people on White Wilderness sled dog trips.
Over the course of your trip you will come to know each dog as a unique individual. It is our sled dogs with their skills, strength, training and distinct personalities that are the backbone of our programs.
