Places to Stay in Ely, MN, and Surrounding Areas
We work with several different area lodges to provide accommodations for our sled dog trips. If you have particular needs or vision for your trip in terms of lodging (ie, private bath, accessibility, romantic honeymoon cabin, smoking rooms, etc.) please let us know in advance. Grand Ely Lodge – A full-service lodge located on Shagawa Lake, just minutes from downtown Ely. Includes pool, sauna, wireless internet, full-service bar and restaurant. Located 30 miles from the White Wilderness kennel.
Jasper Company – Formerly A Stay Inn Ely. Centrally located in downtown Ely, this inn features old-world hostel charm with a cozy fireplace lounge, kitchen and rooms with private baths. For multi-day packages, hearty home-cooked meals are catered in by White Wilderness staff. Located 30 miles from the White Wilderness kennel.
Travel Tip
*Note that amenities (gas, snacks, shopping, etc.) are a bit of a drive from some of the lodges, and can be found in Ely or Two Harbors. Fill up before you arrive.
The Adventure Inn – Specializing in eco-friendly lodging and conveniently located in Ely.
Motel Ely – Another impeccably clean and modestly priced option in downtown Ely.
ISABELLA AREA
The Knotted Pine Cabins, Isabella – Located just 9 miles east of the White Wilderness kennel, the Knotted Pine offers economical winterized housekeeping cabins. Pack your cross-country skis and stay for an extra day to enjoy the nearby Flatiron-Lake Gegoka groomed ski trails, or bring your snowmachine and hop on the adjacent state trail system.
Snowshoe Country Lodge, Isabella – Located just 8.6 miles southwest of the White Wilderness kennel, the Snowshoe Country Lodge features hand-crafted rustic log cabins and economical pricing. If you are looking for a truly authentic rustic cabin with wood stove heat and an outdoor privy, this is a convenient location for a simple, nature-based North Woods getaway.
TWO HARBORS
Travelers coming from the Twin Cities for single-day trips or a Yurt Escape may also want to consider lodging in Two Harbors (1 hr from the kennel) or Duluth (1.5 hr from the kennel).
